April is here, and this month promises to be thrilling for karate enthusiasts!

Our focus this week was on competition, with an emphasis on both kata and kumite. Members participated in elimination kata rounds, where corner judges used flags to score performances. This hands-on experience not only enhanced our skills but also deepened everyone’s understanding of competition dynamics. Kumite practice was equally engaging. We introduced more sparring sessions, concentrating on shobu ippon, which is critical for point-scoring in tournaments.

Additionally, it was inspiring to watch some members travel to Guildford last Saturday for the HDKI GB black & brown belt course. Their commitment to refining their skills alongside fellow karateka was evident. Events like this play a vital role in enhancing our training.
