What an inspiring week at Soncho Karate Club!

We had the honour of training with John Parnell Sensei (7th Dan). The focus was simple yet intense, giving everyone the chance to partner with Sensei John and feel their karate lifted to another level. We revisited Gyaku Zuki no Kata, exploring how the snap of a punch flows into the next technique with dynamic, hip-driven power.

Competition prep was in full swing too, working on kumite with precision: creating opportunities, timing attacks, and making them count. We also got the flags out for elimination kata rounds and finals practice, rehearsing different scenarios and sharpening focus under pressure.

In the senior session, Elif was pushed to the limits (and beyond!) with plenty of Jiu Ippon Kumite. Next week, Elif will be teaching the Shodan syllabus in the senior class, while Yingtai will lead the all grades class with a deep dive into Heian Yondan.

Meanwhile, Charlie Sensei took charge of the all grades group, while Maryse and Natalie headed off to learn from Sensei Rick Hotton and Stuart Amos.

A special shout-out to Max who’s settling in with his sister and even performed his favourite kata in front of everyone. A huge step forward!

Everyone showed fantastic spirit, stepped up a level (or two!), and delivered a truly excellent form.
